Sportsco FC is a modern forward-thinking football club, built on a strong desire to provide quality football coaching and competitive games, with passionate aspirations to succeed. The Club has progressed rapidly from its recent formation, with the fundamental philosophies of excellence in football coaching and the enjoyment of every player firmly installed at its heart. A desire to see the widest possible participation in Sportsco FC's activities, has enabled the Club to currently have over 500 playing members.
Sportsco Football Club is now extremely well known throughout Sutton Coldfield and the greater Birmingham area, with teams participating in the Central Warwickshire Youth League and Lichfield and District Recreational League, recently receiving national recognition as an FA Charter Standard Club.
Sportsco FC aims to develop all players as far as possible in both footballing and non-footballing capacities. This journey begins in the Mini League Programme where children aged between 6 and 10 attend training on Saturday mornings at Penns Lane Sports Ground alongside competitive 5 and 6-a-side matches at the same venue on Sundays.
Children progress to the 11-a-side version of the game at the age of 11 where they move to our base at The Roger Smoldon Ground. Matches take place on Sundays with training sessions arranged during midweek evenings and/or Saturday mornings. Our junior sides are currently competing in the Lichfield and District Recreational League or the Central Warwickshire Junior Youth League.
Many players from within the junior section progress into adult competition with Sportsco FC where we currently have teams competing in the Birmingham AFA League on Saturday afternoons and the Sutton and District League on Sunday mornings. These home matches take place at The Roger Smoldon Ground and there is a growing social calendar which adds the important fun and fundraising elements to membership of the club.
Sportsco FC recently added a competitive ladies side to its membership who play competitively at Goals, Star City on a Thursday evening. The ladies train at the same venue on Saturday mornings and are keen to welcome new players to their squad. Players aged over 16 have the opportunity to attend an annual FA Level 1 Club Coach Award organised by Evolve Education. This provides recognised training and qualifications which will allow players to offer coaching to younger sections of the Club and possible career pathways.
Sportsco FC has been a central part of our family's life for the last decade. My four boys have all played for teams within the club from the outstanding Mini League programme to senior competition in the Birmingham AFA League. Shane McKenna, parent
National Governing Body
The Football Association
We are extremely proud to have become a Charter Standard Club in October 2002, a national recognition of our coaching and organisational standards. Despite only recently being formed, we were the first club in the North Birmingham area to be awarded this title. The Club is now working towards Community Club status to recognise its recent growth and contribution to the wider Sutton Coldfield community.
