About Sport In Sutton

Community Sport and Physical Activity Network, Sutton Coldfield

The Sutton Coldfield Community Sport and Physical Activity Network was set up in 2007. It consists of local sport delivery agents and local stakeholders such as clubs, schools and colleges, Primary Care Trust, governing bodies and the local authority. It is coordinated and led by Constituency Sport and Leisure Manager Andrew Hirst and Sports Development Officer Jane Sixsmith and meets about every 6 weeks.

Its role, as well as supporting opportunities for sport and active recreation in the area by providing effective leadership, is also to build capacity to increase participation and widen access. It also facilitates the provision of opportunities and the recruitment training and management of volunteers, a key component in the provision of sport at grass roots level. It brings together and aligns existing work priorities and targets within one joined up local delivery / action / strategic plan for sport and physical activity within the CSPAN area based upon the needs of local communities

The Network has to date organised 4 sports festivals in the centre of town to recruit both new members and volunteers, coordinated the distribution of Sport England funding and organised a number of training programmes for volunteers and has now produced its own web site,

In order to recognise achievement both in performance and volunteering at al levels of sport within Sutton Coldfield the main event organised by the network is the Sutton Coldfield Sports Awards. This replaced the previous Sutton Coldfield Sports Personality of the Year which ceased in 2004. These are held annually in January and involve achievement in a number of categories.

Jane Sixsmith, former winner of the previous award said 'these awards are intended to encourage people to improve their performance and hopefully inspire more people to participate. Also they will recognise the enormous contribution that volunteers make to the delivery of grass roots sport'.

The Sport in Sutton Website Team

Not only do Sutton have great sports people and volunteers but they also have great creative web professionals whose kids happen to be very sporty indeed, so when Dave Price (Metropolis 2) put together the ideal team to produce this website then two sports mad dads seemed the ideal team.

With the exquisite design skills of Rob Langston (Mauve Design) and canny programming of Jack Wilson (Wilson Web Design) the Sport in Sutton website is in very safe hands.

This site will develop over the next few years and we hope you will stay regular visitors and supporters.
